and so it continues

Day ten I think, and was optomistic that the volcano was slowing down, or at least slowing, and after some thirty-six hours of the media talking about it, the lava flow hit the sea. The outcome did not seem to be as bad as I had expected, but that will be of little solace to the residents whom have lost everything.

The ash gets everywhere, did I say that already? have wrapped my camera gear in cling film protection, I wonder if the others whom fiddle with cameras have considered such protection?

Anyway, to steal the lyric from a song I can barely remember, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

it wont happen in england

All the news is bad news. I did´nt know why there was such a problem in ENGLAND with delivery of petrol. What was the cause? Evidently it is BREXIT.

Although the focus appears to be fuel and delivery to supermarkets, the problem is a shortage of drivers, whom now need VISAS to work in ENGLAND, thus have returned to their own countries.

Boris Johnson, (and friends) what have you done?

the ash is all over the place

The volcano keeps erupting, blowing its anger all over our island, covering everything in ash, including me. Trying to clean the terrace with little success. Better to stop looking at the news, which incidentally has been criticized for tabloidism.

The natural disaster is food and drink to 24-hour channels, how they fill their hours. The suited and booted silk ties, the glamour girl presenters with their high heels and eye shadow...

Telling the story from air-conditioned security.

All you need is background music, but wait, here it comes.

Screeching melancholy of violins.

Natural disaster

As most of you will be aware, I live on the Spanish Canary Island of La Palma. At the moment we are, what word can I use? suffering?  a natural disaster of a volcano.  Every island is volcanic, if experts are to be believed they emerged from the Atlantic some 20 million years ago, and indeed will ultimately return beneath the waves.

Fortunately, I live on the east of the island, and the volcano and subsequent lava tongue is on the other side, badly affecting Los Llanos, El Paso, Tazacorte ...and I fear Puerto Naos.

Quite where it will ultimately halt is anyone guess, as guess is what even the science can do.

Volcanic ash is everywhere, perhaps people will have a greater understanding of why the beaches on many members of this group of islands are black, and not the inviting golden sand of say Fuerteventura.

Anyway, if the colour of the sand is all I have to worry about, I have no worries.

Music maestro...... please.

The beaurocracy (spelling?) is almost exquisite. Dealing with the local authorities, in this case, a subsidied bus ticket, is proving, well can I say a challenge?

For reasons hidden behind, what I assume, are charming smiles, the funcionarios pass the caller from one extention to another, which in itsself is not quite surprising, just like the famous, in the meantime listen to some music, but when you have to wait six weeks, and still no ticket, or indeed hope of that coveted solution.

However dear reader, remember if you will, this is La Palma, the beautiful island, where the pace of life is slow and stop. Something arriving holiday makers do not really notice, but when a foreigner (like me) elects to spend the autumn years on this, or any other part of the archipeligo, the quirky way of life can be frustrating,

If you can accept the law of mañana, which reads "Mañana is not necessarily tomorrow, but it´s certainly not today!", you have passed the first test of reason.

In the meantime, please listen to some music.
