Voltaire Road

 South London twin,

almost prim,
decants its contents, cosmopolitan.

Grumbles

WAIT SIGNAL!

Spanish cars,
haul off the Ludgates,
locos snort, snarl, fume,
wagons groan protest,

South London moans.

WAIT SIGNAL!

Hissing Eurotar slithers past,
its grinning pleasure seekers
safely interned
from the cloying, grubby heat
of Voltaire Road,
the graffiti state .

South London simmers ,

WAIT!

You would probably only understand this if you were a signalman (er) in London Victoria Signalling Centre. A busy junction connecting the central and eastern in south London. Seems like yesterday.
